Official Somerset Release Contacts
For a very recent Somerset custody event, start with the jail. The Bureau of Criminal Identification maintains local criminal files and performs the pre-release warrant and fingerprint checks described by the Sheriff’s Office.

Ask the custodian for a specific existing booking or release record rather than requesting a new report. Somerset’s OPRA office accepts portal, mail, fax, and in-person requests, including its official paper request form. The 2024 OPRA amendments govern current state procedures. If Morris physically held the person, a separate Morris County request may be needed.

Morris County Correctional Facility records can be reached at 973-631-5174. Its jail email is reserved for court and attorney video matters, so it should not be used as a general public-record address.
A Somerset case stays with the Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren Vicinage even when the person is held in Morris. Call 908-332-7700 and use extension 13720 for Criminal and Records, 13680 for Pretrial Services, or 13760 for Probation. Parole is handled separately by the New Jersey State Parole Board at 609-292-4257 or SPB-Public-Info-Office@spb.nj.gov.
The subject and custody system determine where to look.
- Use the home page search and records path for a released person or a county release record.
- Use Parole & Probation to distinguish Board supervision from Judiciary probation.
- Use the 24-Hour Release List fallback process for a release believed to have happened today.
- Check Projected Release Date for NJDOC date fields, or VINELink Check for alerts.
- Use the facility pages in the footer when the physical custodian is known.
- Use NJDOC for a state-sentenced person, BOP for federal custody, and ICE ODLS for immigration detention.
